Our organization was formally established by Bishop Francis Hyland in 1957, and became known as the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (D.C.C.W.). On February 21, 1962, Atlanta was elevated to the status of an Archdiocese and we then became known as the Atlanta Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women (A.A.C.C.W.)

The boundaries of our organization correspond to the boundaries of the Atlanta Archdiocese which include the 69 counties of North Georgia and extend just over the border to Lookout Mountain, Tennessee. By Archdiocesan decree, all Catholic women living in the Atlanta Archdiocese are automatically member of the A.A.C.C.W.

Our organization is divided into three (3) deaneries, South, Northeast and Northwest. The South Deanery has 24 Parishes located below I-20. The Northeast Deanery has grown to 43 parishes located in the Northeast. The Northwest Deanery now has 32 Parishes.
