AACCW Leadership Conference 2009

logoJune 27, 2009

The Atlanta Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women Leadership day held on June 27, 2009 at St. Andrews church in Roswell was a complete success with about 90 women from all over the Archdiocese in attendance.

After a very special continental breakfast prepared by the women of St. Andrews, our President Joan Brown welcomed everyone.  Gwendolyn Scott, Chair for the event explained what the attendees should expect during the day after which, Shirley Towle, Executive Vice President introduced our speaker, Father Timothy Gadziala, our Spiritual Moderator.  Father Tim’s topic “Leadership and Change: Powerful Partners” gave us a new insight on the virtues of loving and following Jesus just as he told Peter and the other disciples in John 15..21.  It was a very powerful speech and very much needed with all the changes in our organization and well as the many Pastor changes in the Archdiocese.

Kathy Powell, director of the Ignatius House retreat center explained what a wonderful experience it is to go on a silent retreat at the center.

Gwendolyn Scott, Organization Commission Chair, explained to everyone how to write an effective report.

After a wonderful lunch prepared by the St. Andrews women, everyone broke out into workshops.  The newly elected presidents and vice presidents were off to one room with Celeste Prier, AACCW Past President, explaining all the ways to be an effective, efficient president and vice president of their groups.  New manuals and brochures were handed out to each for them to refer to in the coming months.  Secretaries were sent to another room with Dorothy Schath, NE Deanery Secretary, explaining all the do’s and do not’s of being a good secretary.  Deanna Holmer, NE Deanery Treasurer explained how to keep and manage the books and money of the organizations.  Shirley Radican, AACCW Past President, explained our Commission system to her group, explaining the importance of our Commission System and how important it is for the Commission Chairs to work at getting information out to everyone.

After a time of sharing, we adjourned at 2:20 to go home and ponder all the information we just received.
