• Appointed Bishop of Belleville, Illinois on December 29, 1993
• Installed Seventh Bishop of Belleville, Illinois on February 10, 1994
• Appointed Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Atlanta on December 9, 2004
• To be installed as Sixth Archbishop of Atlanta on January 17, 2005
