Action Alert!

We have been informed that there may be a last-minute attempt to amend a bill on the floor of the Georgia House of Representatives to lower the standard for the death penalty to be imposed (this amendment would allow less than a unanimous vote of all 12 jurors to impose the death penalty).

As you may know, the Church has opposed this proposal for several years now. This year, there was no meaningful action until recently, when one attempt to amend another Senate bill was abandoned.

We are not positive about this information, but wanted to get the word to you as soon as possible, so you could contact your Georgia State Representative and express your opposition to this proposal.

Action Requested

Please contact your Georgia State Representative and ask for a NO vote on any proposal to pass a law that would allow a non-unanimous jury to impose the death penalty. It is our understanding that there may be an attempt to amend Senate Bill 151 when it comes to the House of Representatives to allow a non-unanimous jury to impose the death penalty - we would oppose this effort on ANY bill, not just SB 151. We oppose the death penalty in general, so definitely oppose any efforts to make it easier to impose.

Deadline: Please contact your State Representative within the next few days, as the legislative session is almost over.
