Congratulations to Sarah Stubbs (Wall of Ignorance) and Gina Valecruz (Digging Up Issues of Poverty), our Grand Prize winners from this year’s CCHD Youth Arts Contest! Both of these works were chosen to be submitted to the national contest in Washington, D.C. because of their artistic value and their demonstration of knowledge of Catholic social teaching. The national CCHD office will select contest winner(s) at the national level. The National Grand Prize winner will receive a $500 cash award and a $500 gift to be designated in the winner's name to a CCHD-funded group of the winner's choice. The National Grand Prize winner will be awarded this prize at the annual conference sponsored by the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry, with all expenses paid for the winner and an accompanying adult to attend the awards ceremony. Second and third prizes and honorable mentions, including a monetary prize and matching grant for a CCHD-funded group, may also be awarded for each age category. See a photo gallery of the Grand and First Place Winners. Other awards at the Archdiocesan level went to: 7th to 9th Grade
10th to 12th Grade
The theme for this year’s contest was “Faith in Action! Uproot Poverty Together!” 33 students submitted entries, representing 4 schools in the Archdiocese: Our Lady of Mercy Catholic High School, Pinecrest Academy, St. Jude Catholic School, and Queen of Angels Catholic School. There were also a few entries from homeschooled students. All of the student artists are to be commended for their artistic abilities and their commitment to raising awareness about how our Catholic faith calls us to respond to poverty in the U.S. Thank you to Life Teen Mission District for their generous contribution of prizes for the winners!
