Latest From Archbishop Gregory

Latest From Archbishop Gregory's Georgia Bulletin Column, "What I have Seen and Heard"-““Notable passings in 2009” is the general category that nearly all media outlets use when cataloging their retrospectives on the deaths of the rich, powerful and famous people who have passed away during the previous year. When I typically check through the names of those that are to be found on those types of lists, I am increasingly aware that the people who make those lists are generally not the folks that I either would recognize as famous or well-known—with some notable exceptions, of course. I am also sure that the people who have died during the past year that I personally remember when looking back over 2009 would not make any media register of the rich, powerful or famous. But they are cherished by me and by many of you as well” Read the rest of the article...

Pray for our Seminarians

photoMy name is Ruben Nunez, and I am in my pastoral year. I was assigned to Saint John Neumann Catholic Church in Lilburn, Georgia.

After this year I will be going to the seminary for my second year of Philosophy.

God wants us to know ourselves better, to know what is in our hearts, so that way we can truly understand that God loves us just exactly how we are. Even more, Jesus wants to use us despite our human condition, for He alone is the fountain of all good.

Catholic Charities Atlanta invites all interested persons to attend a CareForTheTroops meeting to be held Thursday, February 18, from 7-9pm at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Peachtree City. The motto for CareForTheTroops is “to care for those who have borne the battle, and their spouses, children, and families” and its goal is to establish an interfaith, non-political military ministry within the Catholic community to respond to the growing needs of Georgia’s veterans and their extended family members. With support from Archbishop Gregory, CareForTheTroops(www.careforthetroops.org.) will present a short program and answer questions about mental health problems of returning veterans from Georgia, and how our local faith communities can support them.  All Clergy, mental health providers, service members and family members affected, or those interested in being a part of this ministry are invited to attend.

Contact Jutta Hansen at jhansen@archatl.com or 404-885-7238 to RSVP or for more information about the upcoming event.

Response to the Haitian Earthquake-

We all mourn for the people of Haiti, who suffered a 7.0 magnitude earthquake on January 12th. The earthquake has claimed the lives of thousands, including the Archbishop of Port-au-Prince, and it has destroyed countless homes, churches, seminaries, schools and other buildings. This past Saturday our Haitian community gathered at St. Brigid Catholic Church to pray for the people of Haiti.

Prayer resources are available for parish or small group prayer services on the archdiocesan website at www.archatl.com . Visit the CRS blog for updates and to donate now:  http://crs-blog.org/
