Genealogical & General Research Policies & Procedures
The Sacramental Registers of parishes are the primary records maintained by the Archdiocese of Atlanta that contain genealogical information of interest to the general public. Who Can Access Sacramental Records?The Archives is closed to the general public for research. The Archives primarily serves the reference and research needs of the offices and agencies of the Archdiocese of Atlanta. On-site research of sacramental records is permitted only for authorized personnel. Due to the fragile nature of sacramental registers, limited usage of the materials helps to protect them for years to come. Procedures To Request Genealogical Records And Research: Research on general family lines cannot be conducted by the Archives staff. However, research for specific individuals can be done by the staff if the records are housed in the Archives. Archives staff will provide the requester with a copy of the information contained in a specific record entry whenever possible. In the event that the Archives staff cannot provide the researcher with a copy of the record entry, staff will contact the individual who submitted the request. In order to handle genealogical research requests efficiently and promptly, the Office of Archives & Records requires that a be completed. Please complete the form as thoroughly as possible.
