Archbishop Wilton D. Gregory to Celebrate Mass for the Unborn
At the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception
ATLANTA — The Mass for the Unborn will be celebrated by Archbishop Wilton D. Gregory at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, 48 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr., SW, in downtown Atlanta, on Friday, January 21, at 10:00 a.m. Catholics will gather to pray for a culture of life and an end to abortion. Bishop Luis R. Zarama and the priests of the Archdiocese of Atlanta will concelebrate the Mass. A Rosary for Life will be prayed before the Mass for the Unborn beginning at 9:30 a.m.
The faithful of the Archdiocese of Atlanta remember the tragic decisions of January 22, 1973 U.S. Supreme Court Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton that legalized abortion in America leading to the abortion of an estimated 50 million unborn babies in the United States and harm to women. We grieve over even one untimely death of one of God’s creations, a unique and irreplaceable human being.
After the Mass for the Unborn, Catholics will walk to the State Capitol to participate in the “Together for Life Memorial Service” and “Silent Walk” in memory of the loss of the unborn lives.
“The Mass for the Unborn is an opportunity for Catholics to come together as one community to pray for the protection of human life. We will then join with the larger community in solidarity at the Together for Life Memorial Service and Silent Walk,” commented Mary Boyert, Respect Life Director for the Archdiocese of Atlanta. The Catholic Church continues its pledge of support to help pregnant women and their children and counsel those who regret their decision to participate in an abortion.
