Marriage Preparation Programs

Catholic Marriage Preparation programs open to all couples in the Archdiocese of Atlanta:

PreCana Workshops

(21 workshops per year/ 40 couples per workshop and several 1-4 session parish-based programs)

A 7-hour, one-day workshop for engaged couples presented by the Family Life Office. Presenters consist of a clergy/couple team, a Natural Family Planning/speaker couple, and a financial expert. All PreCana workshops are held at the Catholic Center in midtown Atlanta at 680 W. Peachtree Street.

Remarriage Workshops

(11 workshops per year/10-15 couples per workshop)

A 7-hour, one-day workshop for couples in/or preparing for a second marriage. The course focuses on how to deal with ghosts from the past, parenting and step-parenting issues and spiritual issues, as well as the Catholic sacrament of marriage. This workshop is presented by the Family Life Office.  One of two therapists, Diane Domit, LMFT or Linda Sweeney, LCSW, conducts the workshop. All Remarriage workshops are held at the Catholic Center in midtown Atlanta at 680 W. Peachtree Street.

"The Greatest of These Is Love:" An African American Marriage Program

(4 programs per year)

This is an 8-hour, one day workshop given by African-American leaders Deacon Fred Sambrone and Mrs. Connie Sambrone. It is usually held at the Atlanta University Catholic Center. This special program explores those areas important to beginning and sustaining a committed Christian marriage while honoring and explaining some of the related traditions found in African American culture. This program is for couples contemplating marriage, engaged couples and married couples desiring to attain a balanced approach to a committed Christian marriage. This program is approved by the Archdiocese for marriage preparation and is presented through the Family Life Office.

All African American Marriage Workshops are held at the Lyke House at the Atlanta University Catholic Center at 809 Beckwith Street, SW.

Engaged Encounter

(6 weekends per year/ 36 couples per weekend)

This is a weekend experience for engaged couples. Presenters consist of a priest, and two couples. The cost of the weekend is $275.00 per couple. Weekends are offered at several locations around the Archdiocese.  The Atlanta chapter of National Catholic Engaged Encounter works under the umbrella of the Family Life Office.  For further information, please call (770) 975-1147 or visit their web site at www.atlcee.org

LLASU - Llamados a Ser Uno (Called To Be One)

(4 times per year/35-40 couples per course)

This is a one day marriage preparation program conducted in Spanish for engaged couples. Presenters are priests and married couples. Curso de Preparacion Matrimonial en Español - (LLASU) -Llamados A Ser Uno

Es un taller de un día para parejas comprometidas a casarse en la Iglesia Católica de habla hispana. Las charlas son presentadas por un sacerdote y parejas casadas. Three to Get Married

(Variable number of weekends per year—15 couples per weekend)

This is a weekend experience for seriously dating or engaged couples offered at the Mission Center in Norcross through the Center for Family Development under the direction of the Legionaries of Christ. It is a Friday night through Sunday program, but you do stay at your own home each night. The weekend includes practical talks and a mini retreat led by the Legionary of Christ priests.
