Coverage of the 2011 Southeastern Liturgical Music SymposiumThe 2011 Southeastern Liturgical Musical Symposium was held in Atlanta, Georgia, on August 19-20, 2011. The symposium began with a concert on Friday night by the Archdiocesan Festival Choir, and continued Saturday with focus on the opportunities and challenges presented to liturgical musicians by the new translation of the Roman Missal. The keynote address was given by Fr. Douglas Martis, director of the Liturgical Institute and frequent presenter on the new translation of the Mass. Breakout sessions included presentations by nationally renowned speakers including Fr. Jan Michael Joncas, Alan Hommerding, Scott Turkington, and Ken Canedo. Representatives from leading publishing houses and suppliers also where present to display their latest products. We give special thanks to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in North Atlanta for hosting the symposium.
Coverage of the 2010 Southeastern Liturgical Music SymposiumThe 2010 Southeastern Liturgical Musical Symposium was held in Atlanta, Georgia, on August 21, 2010. The symposium focused on the opportunities and challenges presented to liturgical musicians by the new translation of the Roman Missal. The keynote address was given by Andrew Wadsworth, the Executive Director of ICEL, the organization responsible for the translation. Breakout sessions include presentations by nationally renowned presenters including David Haas, Jerry Galipeau, Will Breytspraak, and Jeffrey Tucker. Representatives from leading publishing houses and suppliers also where present to display their latest products. We give special thanks to Holy Spirit Catholic Church in North Atlanta for hosting the symposium.
Coverage of the 2009 Southeastern Liturgical Music SymposiumThe 2009 Southeastern Liturgical Musical Symposium was held in Atlanta, Georgia, on August 22, 2009. The keynote address was given by the Archbishop of Atlanta, Wilton Daniel Gregory, who holds a doctorate in liturgy from the Pontifical Liturgical Institute in Rome, and is a current member of the USCCB Committee on Divine Worship. Breakout sessions included presentations by nationally renowned presenters including: Rory Cooney on Contemporary Music and the Liturgical Year, Dr. Kevin Johnson on African American Sacred Music in Catholic Worship, Lee Gwodz with a session entitled: “Sing! From Child to Adult,” and Jeffrey Tucker: “Sing like a Catholic.” Representatives from leading publishing houses and suppliers were also present with their latest products. The 2009 symposium was hosted by Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in North Atlanta.
