The Office for Divine Worship is pleased to make available a Roman
Missal Prayer Card which includes a Prayer for the Sacred Liturgy. This
prayer is being introduced throughout the Archdiocese as a way for
preparing for the new translation of the Roman Missal. It allows us to
implore God's grace for a smooth transition, as well as for deeper
engagement in liturgical prayer throughout the Church. Because the
prayer uses an English register similar to that used in the new
translation, it also allows the faithful to get the sound of the
translation in their ears before it goes into effect.
Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and Eternal God,
who have given us the gift of worshiping you,
a trinity of persons,
through sacred rites and consecrated signs,
grant, we pray, that we may so honor your majesty upon earth
as to merit an increase of blessedness in heaven,
through our Lord Jesus Christ your Son,
who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever.
On November 27, 2011, the Catholic Church will welcome the English translation of the third edition of the Roman Missal. Let us all pray that this new text will open more deeply the treasures of the Sacred Liturgy, so that Catholics may worship God with the devout and active participation called for by the Second Vatican Council. (cf. Sacrosanctum Concilium 50)
