The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) with its particular approach to the baptismal catechumenate has been called "a process of formation and a school of faith" (NDC 35D). This one day workshop will focus on what makes preparation and formation for celebrating baptism, confirmation and Eucharist as an adult through the RCIA so unique. Come discover what the RCIA (ritual text) tells us about this catechumenal process and what this type of formation and catechesis looks like in the parish. Pastoral issues will be addressed, including questions about marriage concerns.  Reading assignment before the workshop: The Way of Faith: A Field Guide for the RCIA Process by Nick Wagner. RCIA Adapted for Children (English)

Saturday, August 18th, 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM

Instructor: Diana D. Raiche, Ph.D., University of Dallas

Where do we place children who have not celebrated sacraments with their peers? This one day workshop will focus on the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) adapted for these children. It is the process that the Church provides for a growing number of children (7 years and older) who come to the parish or Catholic school without benefit of baptism, first communion, or the sacrament of confirmation. Come discover why the Church provides this pathway to prepare for and celebrate the sacraments of initiation with these children. Pastoral concerns will be addressed on how this type of formation is the same as and also different from traditional sacrament preparation and sacramental "catch-up" programs.

Workshop cost per person: $25 (includes lunch and materials)
