Inculturation Ministry

The word of God became man, a concrete man, in space and time and rooted in a specific culture: “Christ by his incarnation committed himself to the particular social and cultural circumstances of the men among whom he lived.”  This is the original “inculturation “ of the word of God and is the model of all evangelization by the Church “called to bring the power of the Gospel into the very heart of culture and cultures.” General Directory for Catechesis #109

Inculturation Ministry is a link center of communication for the people of the Archdiocese of Atlanta. It observes, listens, discerns and responds taking action together with other Archdiocesan offices, parishes and institutions within Church and secular community in light of the principles, values, and beliefs of the Catholic Church. The National Directory for Catechesis #11 reminds us,

“ Just as all races, ethnicities, and cultures in the world are represented in the population of the United States, so too do they find a home within the Catholic Church.  Each group brings its own language, history, customs, rituals, and traditions “for building up the Body of Christ.” Since persons can only achieve their full humanity by means of culture, the Catholic Church in the United States embraces the rich cultural pluralism of all the faithful encourages the distinctive identity of each cultural group, and urges mutual enrichment.”

  • Inculturation Ministry promotes the concept of Christian Inclusion among the different existing cultures under Jesus’ perspective as the only way to attain reconciliation, solidarity and union with all by providing diversity awareness and networking opportunities.
  • Inculturation Ministry strives to be an agent of transformation for all cultures promoting their fullest inclusion and participation in the Church and society by providing workshops, resources and training.

"The Church of the twenty-first century will be, as it has always been, a Church of many cultures, languages and traditions, yet simultaneously one, as God is one—Father, Son and Holy Spirit—unity in diversity."
