Parish History
In 1942 Savannah Bishop Gerald O'Hara asked the Redemptorist Fathers to accept eight counties in the northwest portion of the state as their mission field. They arrived in Dalton on June 20, 1942. By January 1943, they were offering Mass in Cedartown, Dalton and Rossville.
In May, the Catholic people on Lookout Mountain also requested Sunday Mass. Mass was said in the home of Mrs. Katie Seaton. In 1947 the Redemptorists purchased the Skylark Club on Lookout Mountain, a former gambling casino, and made it into a chapel. This is now used as the social hall at Our Lady of the Mount Church.
On Feb. 1, 1996, the archdiocese assumed the pastoral care of Our Lady of the Mount.
