Meet the Dim Family! They were granted refugee status due to the human rights violations taking place in their home country of Myanmar. They arrived in Atlanta, GA Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at 7:20 p.m. from Malaysia. Branka Dondur, Refugee Resources Coordinator of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Atlanta has furnished their apartment, bought them groceries & a cell phone, greeted them at the airport and will drive them to their new home in the suburbs of Atlanta. She will enroll them in English classes and help them with job placement so that they may become self-sufficient in 6 months.

With the support of the Archdiocese of Atlanta, on Wednesday, September 12 a new grass roots group launched its creation during its first press conference at Central Presbyterian Church across from the State Capitol in downtown Atlanta. The goal of this group is to highlight the significant contributions of Georgia's Hispanic community in particular and immigrant communities in general and to ensure a welcoming environment for immigrants of all backgrounds in Georgia.
